Welcome, from the site creator and books' author
Barnaby Millard is an RHS trained horticulturalist and expert on the RHS level 2 syllabus.
After completing a BSc in Landscape Architecture with Ecology, and the RHS level 2 qualification, Barnaby went on to study the Wisley Diploma in Practical Horticulture and complete RHS level 3. He worked for several years as Wisley's Horticultural Educator and is passionate about sharing gardening knowledge and skills. He still teaches adult learning workshops at Wisley.
Barnaby is also a qualified secondary school science teacher and professional associate of RHS qualifications. He has a deep understanding of the new (2022) RHS level 2 syllabus and the skills needed to excel in the exams.
In 2024 Barnaby embarked on writing course materials that are specifically aimed at RHS qualifications; the RHS does not publish a course textbook so Barnaby's books provide an unofficial version.
Barnaby is a passionate, hands-on gardener
More than anything else, Barnaby learns from growing plants, experimenting, and cultivating beautiful, biodiverse and productive gardens.
Some of his personal projects include:
-
Transforming a derelict allotment site into a productive and pollinator-filled, organic vegetable garden
-
Creating a wildlife friendly, colourful garden from seed in an unloved, paved back garden in a rental property
-
Turning a front garden from 'green desert' lawn to biodiverse wildflower haven, bringing colour to the neighbourhood
